The Creative and Media Diploma

Burnage Media Arts College is proud to be one of the first colleges in the country selected to teach the government's new qualification – The Diploma. The Diploma is designed for students who wish to specialise in a particular area and, with Burnage's status as a Media Arts College, we will be delivering the Creative and Media Diploma.

Burnage students studying the Diploma in Creative and Media will learn how to think, question, explore, create and communicate through a range of components including Principal and Functional Learning through to Specialist Learning and Work Experience. Consequently, students will master the processes common to all creative industries.

This is a new two year course and Burnage students choosing to take and successfully complete the 'Level 2' Higher Diploma will achieve the equivalent to 7 A* - C passes at GCSE.

The course curriculum does not disregard core subjects and accordingly, Diploma students will develop a good standard of English, maths and ICT. They will also acquire other skills such as teamwork and self-management. In Years 10 and 11 they will study other compulsory subjects such as science and PE alongside their diploma. Thereby ensuring that this broad mix of knowledge, understanding and skills will equip them for college, university or employment.

The introduction of the Creative and Media Diploma will help develop the creativity of all students and open their eyes to a world of possibilities.

Creative and Media covers some of the UK’s most dynamic and exciting industries, from film, TV and interactive media to advertising, design and music. Creative industries employ around 1.3 million people in the UK and contribute £112.5 billion to the country’s economy. Consequently, opportunities for Burnage's young people with relevant skills and knowledge in Creative and Media will be many and diverse.
